How much do DJ lessons cost in the UK?
At the DJ Archie School, a DJ course costs £999 for 8 one-to-one lessons at your home, which works out at about £125 a lesson. Your mentor is a working DJ who comes to you, and every course ends with a live graduation set.
What you get for £999
- 8 one-to-one lessons. The whole lesson is about one student, so nothing is skipped and nobody is left behind.
- Lessons at your home. No travel, no waiting around at a studio, and you learn in the place you'll practise.
- A working DJ as your mentor. Our mentors play clubs, festivals and radio. They teach what actually works in front of a crowd.
- A live graduation set. Every level ends with the student performing their own set in front of family and friends.
- Enhanced DBS-checked mentors and support for additional needs, including autism, ADHD, visual impairment and anxiety.
What affects the price of DJ lessons?
DJ lessons in the UK range from cheap online videos to full-time college courses, so it helps to compare like with like. These are the things that change the price most.
One-to-one or group
Group classes cost less per person because the teacher's time is shared. One-to-one lessons cost more, but every minute is spent on the student's own mixing, and the mentor can correct technique the moment it slips.
At home, in a studio or online
Studio lessons can look cheaper until you add the travel, parking and time it takes to get there each week. Online lessons save travel but the mentor can't show you on the decks in front of you. Lessons at home mean the mentor does the travelling. We compare all three in DJ lessons at home vs online vs in a studio.
How long the course is
A single taster lesson is cheaper, but one lesson rarely gets anyone mixing confidently. A structured course of 8 lessons gives enough time to go from first touch of the decks to performing a full set.
Who's teaching
A working DJ brings real experience of reading a crowd, choosing tracks and handling nerves. That's hard to learn from someone who only teaches.
What happens at the end
Some courses simply stop. Ours end with a live graduation set at every level, which gives students a goal to work towards and a moment the family remembers.
Is it worth paying for DJ lessons?
You can learn a lot from free videos, and many DJs started that way. What videos can't do is watch you and tell you what's going wrong. A mentor spots the habits that hold people back, like riding the volume instead of using EQ, or mixing in at the wrong point in a track, and fixes them early. A course also gives structure: a clear order to learn things in, and a goal at the end.
For children and teenagers, lessons add something else: confidence. Standing up and performing a set in front of an audience is a big step, and the graduation is often the part parents talk about most.
Can you buy DJ lessons as a gift?
Yes. We sell DJ lesson gift vouchers, valid for 180 days. They're a popular birthday and Christmas present for budding DJs.
